Javeria Ahmed - ASL Instructor

Sister Javeria is working as an ASL Instructor with George Brown College & the Canadian Hearing Society.

She is a Graduate of George Brown College's ASL and Literacy Instructor Diploma Program 

She has advanced fluency in:

• American Sign Language,
• Pakistani  Sign Language, (Islamic Signs)
• Sign Language
• Visual Gesture Language

Sister Javeria has proven skills and experience in ASL instruction, tutoring and Deaf Cultural awareness for Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing learners.

Born in Guyana, South America

  • Graduated from Madina University; specialized in Hadith Studies
  • Currently a resident scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto
  • Serves as an Islamic Counsellor with the Islamic Social Services and Resource Association (Toronto).
  • Regular Khateeb and lecturer at several prominent mosques in and around Toronto

Shaikh Abdool Hamid is also the spiritual guide for the IIT Hajj group which takes more than 75 Hujjaj every year to Makkah.

He also presents a bi-weekly Tafseer session at the IIT on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.

Shaikh Abdool Hamid is married and has six children. He lives in Toronto, Canada.


Abdulfatah Jahedar - Qur'an Instructor

Qari Abdul Fatah Jahedar has a Bachelors of Law from Tripoli University and an Ijazah in The Memorization and Recitation of Qur'an from the Awqaf Ministry in Libya. He is a reciter of international repute and has participated in and won a number of international Quran and Nasheed competitions.

He is currently an Imam and teacher at the Islamic Institute of Toronto.

Shaikh Musleh Khan - Resident Scholar

Shaikh Musleh Khan was born in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He was raised and is currently residing in Toronto, Canada. At college he studied computer programming and then went to work as a Fraud analyst.

In 2002 Shaikh Musleh was accepted at the Islamic University of Madinah where he completed a diploma in Arabic followed by a BA in Islamic Law from the faculty of Da'wah and Usool al-deen. He memorised the Qur'an with an ijaza and has completed a complete study of Sahih al-Bukhari.

Shaikh Musleh undertook a study of various Islamic books including those on Fiqh, Hadith, Aqidah, Tafsir. Futhermore, he took classes with various prominent scholars in the course of his time in Madinah, including Sheikh Mukhtar Al-Shanqiiti, Sheikh Muhsin Al-Abaad, Sheikh Abd al-Razak, and Sheikh Muhammad Shafi among others.

Upon graduating in 2011 he has returned to Canada and has plans to pursue a Masters at York University, Toronto. He has been very active in the Toronto vicinity for more than 10 years, having conducted khutbahs, classes, lectures and conferences, as well as various Islamic Intensive programs in the United States. Shaikh Musleh enjoys long-distance running and basketball. He loves to read and write in addition to spending time preparing for classes in Toronto where he and his wife reside.


Shaikh Ahmad Kutty - Senior Scholar

Shaikh Ahmad Kutty was educated in the traditional Islamic Sciences at Islamiyya College, Kerala, and at the Islamic University of Madina Munawwarah. He received his ijazahs (licences/designations) as an ‘a’lim and faqih from both India and Saudi Arabia. He earned his M.A from the University of Toronto and pursued doctoral studies at McGill University, Montreal.

Over the past 30 years, he has been Director of the Islamic Center of Toronto, Director of the Islamic Foundation, Toronto, Canada, and has served on the Fiqh Council of North America.

Currently, Ahmad Kutty is resident scholar and senior lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto. His courses include Quran & Hadith Sciences, Islamic Theology & Jurisprudence and Islamic Ethics & Spirituality among others. His fatwas (Islamic rulings) have been translated into several languages and appear on various international sites including www.askthescholar.com www.onislam.net, islamicity.com, islamophile.org, infad.usim.edu.my, and islam.ca. He actively participates in interfaith seminars, symposia and serves as an expert/resource in cases involving Islamic Law and Theology.

Julie Lowe - Instructor

Sister Julie has ijazah in the 10 variant recitations of the Qur’an (asharah sughra) from Shaykh Uthman Khan, under whom she studied Jazariyyah, Shatibiyyah, Durrah and other recognized classical tajweed texts. She has memorized the entire Qur’an in the recitations of Hafs and Shu’bah, and is currently memorizing the recitation of Warsh. Sister Julie has been teaching tajweed for the past four years, first at Shatibiyyah Institute and then with the Islamic Institute of Toronto where she has been teaching since 2012.

Sister Julie is currently beginning her PhD at the University of Toronto in the area of Islamic law after completing a Master’s in this field at the University of London (U.K.). She holds a degree in Canadian common law from Queen’s University, as well as a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo. She actively pursues other Islamic studies opportunities part time, and has completed the Islamic studies program offered by AlMaghrib Institute.


Shaikh Abdullah Hakim Quick - Senior Scholar

Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick is a historian, social activist and religious leader of African and Native American descent. He has travelled to over 58 countries doing research and delivering lectures to various communities. His qualification in Islamic Studies comes from a BA from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia and his history background is shaped by an MA and PhD from the History Department of the University of Toronto, Canada. Shaikh Abdullah is currently a senior instructor at the Islamic Institute of Toronto.


Khalid Raheem - Arabic Language Instructor

Khalid Raheem is a bilingual copy editor by profession with a BA from the University of Toronto in French and Spanish and has a very strong background in foreign languages. He has been a student of the Arabic language for over 15 years under Shaikh Abdul Hamid, and has taught all 3 books of Dr. Abdur Rahim's world-famous Madina grammar course over the last 8 years. He has been the copy editor for Books 3-5 of the new coloured version of the respected doctor's Arabic grammar books, and is the copy editor of his English novel entitled Europe Speaks Arabic.

Khalid subscribes to the philosophy that grammatical concepts of a foreign language are best understood if explained in simple terms students can relate to in their own language. Students are encouraged to observe where Arabic grammar differs from English, and where it is similar, thereby making many grammatical rules easier to understand. This unique approach to teaching has made Khalid one of the most sought-after teachers of Arabic grammar in the GTA.


Fawaaz Safeek - Instructor

Fawaaz has been a student of Tajweed and the Arabic language for many years. During this time he has completed his Ijazah in the recitation of Hafs'an Asim under the supervision of Shaikh Sibghatullah Rasool.


Rona Ullah - Arabic Language Instructor

Sister Rona Ullah is a student of Arabic Language originally from Afghanistan, and has successfully completed courses with Shaikh Abdool Hamid and Brother Khalid Raheem at the IIT, in addition to other studies. She is a good example of dedication and hard work in pursuing the language to the extent that she is now able to teach the material.

Aamir Zaidi - Final Year Student at Madinah University

Brother Aamir Zaidi is a final year student at the International Islamic University of Madinah, in the Faculty of Arabic Language.

Brother Aamir grew up with the IIT community and was instrumental in the successful management of IIT Summer Camps for many years.
